The concept
Founded in 2014 by Carlos and Helena Costa, ALMA de LUCE began with the stories their grandfather António shared with them. Remembering is the starting point: traditions, places, symbols, people and legends become ideas for contemporary furniture.
The result is an interpretation rather than a replica. A remembered gesture may inform a curve; a cultural symbol may become a rhythm in timber or upholstery. Portuguese design and craftsmanship give these references a material identity, preserving their emotional connection while creating something new.

Materials & finishes
Explore a selection from ALMA de LUCE’s material library. These are real brand samples, paired with examples of how the collection combines grain, texture, colour and reflection.

Solid wood & veneer
American walnut, ash, oak, kambala, palisander and ebony form part of the brand’s wood palette. Grain, colour and the chosen finish shape each piece’s character.

Marble
The stone selection includes White Estremoz, Carrara, Ruivina, Nero Marquina and Green Viana. Veining and polished surfaces add a distinct mineral presence.

Velvet & upholstery
Velvet sits alongside bouclé, linen, suede, textured fabrics and other upholstery groups. The selection can be developed around touch, colour and the intended setting.

Leather
The leather palette spans dark, neutral and expressive colours, including Nero, Bordeaux, Colvert and Mattone. The material adds a different tactile layer beside wood and metal effects.

Metal & decorative finishes
The catalogue distinguishes metal plate from metal-effect finishes. Its options include brass, antique brass, copper and stainless steel plates, plus brass, nickel and rose-gold effects.

Mirror, glass & surface treatments
Mirror and glass are complemented by lacquer, stain, leaf, metallic stucco and special-effect groups. Matt, satin and gloss treatments create different relationships with light.
Start with the room’s palette, then compare wood tone, upholstery and surface finish together. IMA Gallery can help you review the options offered for your chosen piece and confirm its specification, availability and any bespoke requirements before ordering.

Portuguese craftsmanship
The brand’s woodworking stories follow the relationship between the designer and the artisan: choosing timber, understanding its behaviour, shaping components and resolving the construction. Knowledge passed between generations becomes part of the finished piece.
Material selection, making and finishing are considered together. This is where the cultural reference becomes a usable object—with attention to its proportions, surfaces and the way its parts meet.
